IE9 Windows update from April 18

Users of Windows 7 and Vista operating systems will start getting the updates to install Microsoft's latest Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) from April 18

Users of Windows 7 and Vista operating systems will start getting the updates to install Microsoft's latest Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) from April 18.

Microsoft has already clarified that although customers of its newest operating systems will get IE9 via a software upgrade, the new browser will not be automatically installed.

It will remain for users to choose whether or not to install IE9, which was released to the public last month and has drawn encouraging response.

Microsoft's Roger Capriotti said: "On April 18, a little over a month after the final release of IE9, we will be ready to start the rollout of IE9 to our Windows 7 and Windows Vista customers.

"We will offer IE9 to customers via a gradual rollout and expect the rollout to be largely complete by the end of June."

He added: "Similar to our approach for IE8, we will use Windows Update to deliver IE9 to users. IE9 will not install automatically on machines. Users will have to agree to install IE9."

Meanwhile, Microsoft gave a preview of the next edition of the browser, the IE10, at the annual MIX conference in Los Angeles.
