More firms to adopt cloud computing

A new report has predicted that cloud computing would be the "top technology priority"

A new report has predicted that cloud computing would be the "top technology priority" for a considerable number of firms in 2011.

More IT departments are likely to opt for cloud computing this year, as the model could help businesses tackle growing economic strains as well as facilitate flexible working methods, according to the study by IT services provider 2e2.

Cloud computing is capable of offering more flexibility in cost and skills base, compared with the existing models, while it could also result in similar benefits to IT outsourcing.

Nathan Marke, the company's chief technology officer, said: "Cost pressures have continued to grow while IT departments struggle to increase business agility and cope with the peaks and troughs in demand for applications and services."

Meanwhile a separate study by the International Data Corporation indicated that by 2015, the cloud systems management software market would see expansion of $2.5 billion (£1.5 billion).
