Apple has announced that more than 10 billion apps have been downloaded from its App Store by iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch users worldwide.
The App Store, which was launched in July 2008, offers over 350,000 apps to users around the world.
One billion apps were downloaded in the first nine months of its launch, and they hit the five billion mark by June last year.
It offers customers a range of apps in 20 categories, including games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel.
Its contribution to mobile computing has prompted Apple's rivals, such as Google, Microsoft, Research In Motion, Nokia and Samsung, to come up with similar stores.
Although developers earlier faced problems with Apple's app approval process, the firm recently said it plans to publish its App Store Review Guidelines.
These provide rules and examples across a range of development topics, including user interface design, functionality, content and the use of specific technologies.
