Google reveals Cloud Print feature

Google is close to unleashing its new Cloud Print feature

Google is close to unleashing its new Cloud Print feature that allows users to directly print data stored on a mobile phone without the need for connecting wires.

Cloud Print will be compatible on mobile phones that support HTML5 - which include devices running Android 2.1 and above and iOS 3 and above - allowing owners to print "from any app on any device, OS or browser without the need to install drivers."

Cloud Print mirrors an Apple feature called AirPrint, which was introduced for iOS 4.2.

The Apple version is compatible with iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, and similarly enables a user to connect to supported printers using Wi-Fi and print without the need for drivers.

Manufacturer HP has also unveiled a feature called HP ePrint, which is a cloud-based system that lets users email data from their mobile devices to a printer.

Google says in a blog post: "Once you're set up, just go to gmail.com from your iPhone or Android browser and choose "Print" from the dropdown menu in the top right corner. You can also print eligible email attachments (such as .pdf or .doc) by clicking the "Print" link that appears next to them."
