IBM has lined up a series of new cloud computing solutions
IBM has lined up a series of new cloud computing solutions to enable businesses to manage virtual environments better.
The company showcased four software products at the Pulse 2011 service management event in Las Vegas designed for improved provisioning and server management.
A beta program promises to speed up provisioning of virtual machine (VM) to within a few seconds. It would take just minutes to set up dozens of VMs while thousands can be created in less than an hour, IBM claimed.
Dennis Quan, director at IBM's Tivoli China Development Labs, said: "Even when you up the number of VMs you're provisioning, you still get the time benefits."
He added: "It will change the mindset of users, they'll be more willing to relinquish the resources when they're not using them as they know they can get them again quickly."
Another upgraded IBM application offers more sophisticated management of data centre resources for bigger businesses. The Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.2 enables quick deployment of hundreds of thousands of virtual images across multiple operating systems.
