Over 25% of business users carry a tablet
New research has shown that over 25% of business users carry a tablet, usually an Apple iPad, to work.
A survey by Wi-Fi roaming provider iPass showed that mobile employees currently use 2.6 devices on average at work, while at the same time most of them hope for the arrival of one ultimate device in the next five years that will meet all their work-related needs.
"Tablet and smartphone use in the enterprise is being driven by the growth of cloud-based applications, in addition to the availability of these devices being reasonably priced," said Steven Wastie, senior vice president marketing and product management at iPass.
The poll of 3,500 mobile employees at 1,100 enterprises worldwide found that the increasing popularity of hand-held devices had led to a 10% drop in laptop usage at work.
When asked to name their one work device of choice, around 20% of mobile workers went for the tablet, while around half of those questioned (49%) voted for the smartphone (down from 63% in 2010).
Only 27% selected the laptop (down from 37%) as their preferred work tool.
