European Commission's cloud computing strategy supported by Cloud Industry Forum
A public consultation on the European Commission's cloud computing strategy has been supported by the Cloud Industry Forum (CIF).
The industry body, which encourages the adoption of cloud-based services by businesses, said governments across the EU should consider the consultation on a priority basis.
Andy Burton, chair of the CIF, said: "It is now clear that interest in the cloud computing model is reaching the very highest levels of awareness among our lawmakers, both here in the UK and across Europe.
"CIF has already presented evidence to one of the key select committees in the House of Commons in the UK, and is now preparing to submit evidence as part of this major consultation process."
All interested parties, specifically cloud developers and cloud users, are expected to respond to the consultation. The commission is seeking insights into the benefits of cloud computing.
The consultation will involve a number of factors such as data protection and liability questions, legal and technical issues, standardisation and interoperability solutions as well as methods to improve cloud computing.
Burton added: "I am convinced that the cloud will present a number of opportunities for the European telecoms and IT sectors, as well as for users of those services."
